Azilals are works where every weaver tells her personal story. Rural life, motherhood and childbirth are some of the main topics. Galleries around the world have begun to exhibit them. Their originality and immense strength in terms of color and concept have inspired artists such as Matisse, Paul Klee and Le Corbusier. Tremendously creative, azilal rugs combine irregular and abstract patterns with ancient Berber symbols. Originating from the Azilal region of the Atlas mountains near Marrakesh, these carpets are designed with colored materials such as wool and cotton colored with vegetable dye or threads of recycled cloth.
